Mighty mighty Metro – you can now re-load your card online

This has been a long time coming and it’s finally here. Today, September 22, 2011 will go down in history as the first day the Washington DC Metro system will allow customers to add value to a SmarTrip card from any computer! No more waiting in line at the fare station to load more money – do it from the convenience of home (or somewhere else you have computer access). Nice!

Metro General Manager and CEO Richard Sarles said “customers can now go online rather than getting in line” – I like the sound of that! Any customer with a registered SmarTrip card can load value simply by logging onto their SmarTrip account on Metro’s website, smartrip.wmata.com, and clicking on the “add value” link. The system accepts all major credit cards.
