Hurricane Preparedness Resources
We’re all aware that DC is in the path of hurricane Irene – well here are a few tips to stay safe during the storm:
SAT., AUG. 27, SANDBAG DISTRIBUTION TO DC RESIDENTS (WITH DC ID): DPW will receive a shipment of about 2,700 bags by Saturday morning that will be available for pick up by District residents starting at noon, Saturday, August 27, on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents, with DC identification, may pick up sandbags (up to five per household) at RFK Stadium, Lot 7.
The Shelter and Evacuation Guide for Ward 8 is a valuable tool in the event that the storm is worse than we’re expecting.
The Mayor’s Communications Office hurricane tips.
DDOT will be providing critical traffic-related and emergency information on a real time basis via Twitter.com/ddotdc. Residents are strongly urged to avoid traveling during the storm if possible. High winds could topple trees and pose a hazard to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
