Ward 8 Farmers Market to DOUBLE Food Vouchers in 2011
THIS JUST IN – –
Ward 8 Farmers Market has received a grant from Wholesome Wave Foundation to establish a Double Dollars program. Customers using WIC Vouchers, Senior Vouchers or an EBT/SNAP card will receive DOUBLE their value. For the needy in our community, virtually the entire market has been cut to half price.
The Ward 8 Farmers Market provides an array of fresh fruits and vegetables from Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. In addition, there are jams, bread, muffins, chemical-free meats, houseplants grown in DC soil, and many surprises throughout the season.
WIC recipients receive special farmers market vouchers. They are available to families in DC who meet income requirements with children from pregnancy to the age of 5. If you are a WIC recipient and have not received your farmers market vouchers, speak to your WIC office or call the WIC hotline at 1-800-345-1WIC.
Senior Vouchers from the Farmers Market Nutrition Program are available to DC residents over the age of 60 who meet income requirements. More information is available at (202) 724-5644.
Ward 8 Farmers Market will begin operations for the year on Saturday June 4 from 9 am – 2 pm. The season continues every week through Thanksgiving. The new location is at THEARC, 1901 Mississippi Ave. SE.
