The ANC 8E Economic Development Committee is Born
Economic development in 8E has long eluded us. Wards 7 and 8 are coming along as a whole, with the new Wal Mart coming to Ward 7, the Giant Shopping center that was opened in the last two years in Ward 8, the numerous restaurants and businesses in Anacostia. But what about 8E? The map below is of ANC8E. As you can tell, we don’t have many areas that would be conducive to businesses so I’m looking for your advice. What should the newly formed 8E Economic Development committee focus on? Seminars, bringing business to 8E, joining with one of the other Ward 8 economic groups to bring development to ward 8 as a whole? What would you, my constituents benefit from the most? A map of 8E is below for reference.
One of the first things that comes to mind for me by way of economic development is increasing the number of home owners in our area. We’ve heard our council member say on many occasions that he is actively seeking opportunities to increase home ownership in Ward 8 and while doing research on ideas for economic development, I came across this interesting portrayal of the current economic crisis. A big thank you to my twitter friend Paul May on @mikeleenews for posting this and sharing his thoughts on it. The full financial commission report is posted here if you’re interested.
So what’s your opinion? Did we get ourselves into this mess? What’s the best way out? I know it’s not directly related to development in 8E, but I found it interesting and would like to gain your thoughts on the content.
